Over 50 high school students from Harford County who aspire to become educators attended the Educators Rising: Lead with Confidence conference held at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) on Thursday, October 23, 2025. Each school was represented by a group from its Educators Rising chapter leadership team.

The conference brought together high school students from across the region who are interested in pursuing careers in education. Participants engaged in collaborative leadership workshops, networked with peers who share their passion for teaching, and toured the UMBC campus to learn more about collegiate opportunities in education.

A highlight of the day was the keynote address by Dr. Lamar Shields, former faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University School of Education. Dr. Shields delivered an inspiring message about the power and impact of great teachers, encouraging students to lead with purpose and confidence as they prepare for future roles in education.

Harford County Public Schools remains committed to cultivating the next generation of educators by providing meaningful opportunities for students to explore, lead, and grow within the field of education.
