Football player holding his jersey that is number 3 on the side of the football field

Edgewood High School proudly honored distinguished alum Deonte Banks, Class of 2019, during a ceremony at a recent football game. The ceremony recognized his athletic achievements and lasting impact on the community.

Banks exemplifies dedication, perseverance, and excellence. His outstanding performance on the Edgewood High School football field earned him a full scholarship to the University of Maryland, where he played cornerback for the Terrapins. His continued success at the collegiate level led to him being selected 24th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft by the New York Giants.

As part of the celebration, Edgewood High School unveiled a tribute to Banks on the football field. His jersey number and last name have been placed on the 3-yard line at both ends of the field, symbolizing the number he wore while playing for the Rams. Additionally, his New York Giants jersey will be displayed in the school’s athletic hallway, serving as an enduring source of inspiration for current and future student-athletes.

“Deonte has inspired us all with his hard work, resilience, and commitment to greatness,” said Sandra McMichael, principal of Edgewood High School. “He represents not only the best of our community but also the endless possibilities that come with passion and determination.”

Edgewood High School extends its gratitude to Banks for serving as a role model and for demonstrating what is possible when dreams are pursued with dedication.
